About Us
How We Met
Rui and Liz met in Rio Dulce, Guatemala in 2021. Both were solo sailors at the time, enjoying life on the river
of this amazing cruisers paradise. Mutual friends encouraged Rui to help Liz out with a project
on It’s The Truth while working on her out of the water in Ram Marina. And the rest is history. Together, we sailed our boats
down to Panama before deciding to move onto one boat together.
Liz
Liz grew up sailing on her dad’s Crossbow 40, Papillion, in the British Virgin Islands. After many lovely family vacations sailing around the islands, Liz’s parents sold the boat, and it wasn’t until many years later that Liz found herself aboard another one. Through a family friend, Liz found out about the Ocean Cruising Club, and through that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, in 2018, for the first time. Liz was hooked from there on. Liz jumped on as many boats as possible, before finally purchasing It’s The Truth in 2021.
Rui
Rui started sailing in Lake Ontario. A friend invited Rui out on a boat for a day sail, and he was hooked. Then Rui got into the racing scene, and eventually bought his first boat, a Kirby 30. Racing on Lake Ontario for five years and winning many, many awards. Rui then got interested in full time cruising, and left Toronto in 2015 down the Erie Canal, and never turned back.
About It's The Truth
It’s The Truth is a 1982 Cal 39. Liz bought her in 2021 where she had been used as a coastal cruiser, along the New England coastline, and a weekly racer in the Long Island Sound. She had been sitting on the hard for over a year, wrapped up for the winter season. Liz just did a hull and tank inspection before settling on a price and becoming the new owner. Liz arrived in the end of January 2021 to take a good look over what would be needed to take her offshore to Virginia. In March, Liz moved aboard while It’s The Truth was still on the hard and began work. She was dropped into the water shortly after and about five weeks later, Liz, her friend Tres, and her mum took off for Virginia.
Over the years Liz and Rui have put a lot of work and additions into It’s The Truth, making her the capable and trustworthy offshore cruiser she is today.
